The idea
for.you.fm is a mixtape sharing app for creating and sending a mixtape along with a handwritten letter. It lets you choose 5 songs, or ask you for you mood, and creates a curated mixtape itself. No authentication required.
How does it work?
On a fundamental level, it uses Youtube Data API to search for songs. I'm using iframe to directly stream from youtube. It uses Next.js for both backend and frontend stack.
The app is deployed on a single cloudflare worker which is responsible for managing everything from mixtape creation to mixtape publication. The other way to create a mixtape is by using a prompt. The initial idea was to use Spotify or Youtube APIs to find relevant music according to keyword searches. However rate limits for both apps aren't very generous and require multiple auth steps. Hence, the LLM itself comes up with few tracks based upon the prompt.
The search from Youtube uses a deterministic matching engine. Confidence score is calculated from the top search results. Low confidence results are ignored, and high confidence scores are showed in the dropdown for the user to select.

- Describe a mood and let it pick five songs, or paste YouTube links yourself
- Write them a letter
- Send the link — they don't need an account either
